Gary brings to Costco 36 years of experience in a variety of finance, banking and retail-related areas. He spent the early part of his career working for the NatWest Group (formerly Royal Bank of Scotland) in the U.K. He joined NatWest in 1987, and over 21 years, he held leadership positions of increasing responsibility in a variety of areas. In 2005, Gary was tasked with running the bank’s credit card business in the U.K.

Prior to joining Costco, Gary spent the past 15 years at the U.S. retailer Kroger Co. In 2008, Gary relocated to the U.S. to be the CEO of Kroger’s personal finance business. After serving in various leadership positions at Kroger, Gary became CFO in 2019.

Gary earned a bachelor’s degree from Birmingham City University and a postgraduate degree in business administration from the University of Warwick in the U.K.
