Navitus Health Solutions Celebrates 20 Years of Transformative Pharmacy Benefit Management

August 17, 2023

MADISON, Wis., August 17, 2023 – This week, Navitus Health Solutions, LLC celebrates 20 years of delivering best-in-class pharmacy benefit management (PBM) services. Navitus was founded in 2003 to provide an alternative PBM model that helps make medications more affordable for the people who need them. Through a fully transparent, 100% pass-through model, Navitus has grown to serve more than 11 million people across more than 1,000 plan sponsor and health plan client relationships in two decades.

“Since opening for business in 2003, our unwavering mission has been to help human beings by reducing cost from the drug supply chain. I am honored to work alongside a committed team who is passionate about making our alternative PBM model an industry standard,” said David Fields, President and CEO of Navitus. “As we reflect on the last two decades, I am grateful and look forward to the next 20 years of building on our legacy to enable better health for those we serve.”

In the last decade alone, Navitus celebrated several significant milestones, including the creation of its wholly owned specialty pharmacy Lumicera Health Services, (Lumicera) and the expansion of its geographical footprint to four offices and two Lumicera facilities, as well as winning several awards, including recognition from the Pharmacy Quality Alliance, AVA Digital Awards, and eHealthcare Awards, among others.

Another major accomplishment is Navitus’ continued alignment with key industry partners who share its commitment to transparency and affordability. In 2007, Navitus was acquired by Dean Health Plan, Inc., and in 2020, Costco Wholesale Corporation acquired a minority stake in Navitus. To strengthen Navitus’ ability to serve the unique needs of employers, Navitus acquired EpiphanyRx, a next-generation PBM solution, and partial ownership of ArchimedesRx, an industry-leading specialty drug management solution, in 2021. Most recently, Navitus became a founding member of CivicaScript to further availability of lower-cost generic medications to U.S. consumers. Through these strategic partnerships, Navitus continues its commitment to removing cost from the drug supply chain and making the pharmacy benefits experience more transparent for plan sponsors, health plans and their members.

To mark this anniversary and to celebrate the people who have contributed to Navitus’ legacy, its clients, staff, former board members and executives, and legislators gathered on Wednesday, August 16, at Navitus headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin. Navitus’ Appleton and Phoenix offices also held events, with the celebration in Madison accessible via live stream for remote employees.
