Navitus’ 2021 Drug Trend Report Reveals Significant Cost Savings and Improved Member Health

June 16, 2022

MADISON, Wis., June 16, 2022 – Navitus Health Solutions, an industry-disrupting pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) that’s committed to bringing humanity to pharmacy benefits management, released its 2021 Annual Drug Trend Report demonstrating pharmacy benefit cost savings for its customers and improved affordability for members. Navitus’ new report shows that new clients who moved to Navitus from another PBM in 2021 saved an average of 16%, with additional data on existing clients that savings continued years two through six after implementation.

“At Navitus, we exist to help people access important medication therapies at affordable costs so they can live their fullest lives,” said Brent Eberle, RPh, MBA, Senior Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer. “By partnering and aligning with our customers to help them save on pharmacy benefit costs and to improve health outcomes, we work towards our mission of helping humanity.”

The rising costs of medications are a top concern for most Americans. In fact, 30% of adults have not taken their medications as prescribed at least once in the past year because of cost – putting their health and well-being at risk.1 Navitus’ 100% pass-through, lowest-net-cost philosophy and clinical care programs are designed to achieve greater medication affordability and adherence for members. According to the 2021 Annual Drug Trend Report, commercial plans achieved an all-in, total-net-cost per member per month (PMPM) cost of $84.37 with Navitus, a modest year-over-year increase of 1.5%.2

“Over the last five years, new clients have realized first-year savings ranging from 16% to 25%. Each year, we are delivering more value to plans and their members, and doing the right thing for health care consumers,” said Tom Pabich, Senior Vice President, Business Development & Client Services. “They are also pleased with the outstanding level of customer service as reflected in our superstar Net Promoter Score rating again this year.”

Key highlights from the report reveal:

  • Outstanding service- Navitus’ client Net Promoter Score (NPS) increased to 76 from 72 in the prior year.
  • Stellar implementation – Navitus clients reported 100% satisfied post implementation.3
  • Well-controlled drug spend:
  • The dataset revealed non-specialty drug trend of -0.9% in 2021, reflecting how unit cost reduction offset increased utilization.
  • Lower specialty unit cost, keeping specialty trend to 4.3%, the lowest in recent years.
